I was diagnosed with Sjogren’s and relapsing polychondritis around 20 years ago based on my symptoms because my blood tests are negative. I recently asked for a second opinion and the new doctor suggested that I might not have the conditions at all. I try to remind him tha a large number of patients have negative labs I am concerned about the damage done by the Sjogren’s to my intestines. I have mayor issues with motility, symptoms like intestinal blockage . About 7 years ago I had 2 intestinal surgeries back to back. The doctor found that I had a redundant colon and that a section of my intestines look like noodles and removed part of my intestines . They ended up having to do a second surgery within a week because the tissue on the section where the surgeon connected my Iintestines died causing a blockage. They ended up removing 5 1/2 feet of intestines and the surgeon and the gastroenterologist told us that they thought the Sjogren’s caused the damage but they didn’t enter the information on my file. I am concerned that I developed short fiber neuropathy which is affecting the intestine and that I am not been treated for it and the long term effects can cause serious damage to my intestines. The new doctor said that in his 19 years practicing he has never seen someone with damage to the intestines because of sjogren.
